The Jelly Roll Blues
Ferdinand "Jelly Roll Morton" LaMothe (1890-1941) was an American composer and pianist from New Orleans often associated with the birth of jazz. Many of his compositions bridged the gap between ragtime and dixieland styles. This arrangement of The Jelly Roll Blues can be a great introduction to early Jazz. Adagio quasi un poco andante
from String Quartet no. 14, op. 131 I probably don't listen to enough Beethoven. He never wrote anything for tuba and most of his music is too hard for us long-tubed folks, anyways. This poignant movement from his String Quartet no. 14 actually works pretty well for tuba quartet if you change the key. I won't tell him if you won't.
